World Book Night 2013

There are only 5 more days to fill out your applications for World Book Night. Don't know what World Book Night is? Where have you been? Oh, it's such an awesome program!
World Book Night started in 2011 in the UK and Ireland and is based on a Spanish holiday where people give a book and a flower to a loved one. The intention is to inspire the love of reading and encourage others to read. Last year the U.S. and Germany joined in the fun.
Thirty books are chosen each year. Applicants fill out an application online where they choose three books from the provided list. Then, if you are selected, a few days before April 23rd you can pick up your box of 20 books of one title at a drop site and on the 23rd you go out and give them away.
If you work at a library or bookstore you can request your workplace be a drop site for the boxes of books (I believe the due date for this has passed this year). Our library did this last year and we had a small party for the people who were selected to give books away. Griffith Memorial library was chosen again to be a drop site this year, which is really exciting. Last year I was also selected to give away Ender's Game and I handed them out to students on our campus.
It is such an awesome program and it really only takes a few minutes of your time to fill out the application. It is also really fun to hand out books to unsuspecting people!
Good luck and let me know if you got a box!
